Well done to all our children who took part in the run at Ashlands Primary School on Saturday 4th February.
In Year one the topic this term is 'How things move'. To start things off, we had a visit from Matthew who has recently completed his pilots training. He told us how he had wanted to be a pilot from an early age and how hard he had to work at school to achieve this. Matthew showed the children lots of pictures and answered all the questions the children had prepared - How to change an engine, where the toilets are as well as how to fly a plane!
Matthew played a recording of Air traffic control and the children had to decide when it was safe to take off. They also watched a video of how to land a plane in fog and cloud and Matthew explained what all the controls were. Luckily year one managed to spot the runway lights just before the plane landed.
The children thoroughly enjoyed listening to Matthew and Jet 2 have now get plenty of prospective candidates!!

For Children In Need we managed to make a continuous trail of money around school, thank you for your generosity.
We would like to welcome our new school councillors

Mrs Hodges gave Nursery and Reception classes a Zumba lesson. The children recovered well but some staff are still in need of oxygen. Apologies for the blurred images but we couldn't keep Mrs Hodges still long enough to take a photo and the photographer was suffering slightly!! It's yoga for me next year as in the photo's below.

Mrs Floyd our specialist reading teacher brought in her two dogs Poppy and Dill to meet reception children. Mrs Floyd has written a range of reading books which feature her dogs and we hope the children will be able to identify with the dogs when they read the books.
