Year 2

What are we doing in class this half term?

Topic: Our topic is All About Where We Live. We will be learning about our local area and about the people in our communities that help us.  If you are somebody that works in the local community or helps in the local area could you let us know as we would like to arrange some visitors to talk about what they do.

The children will also be learning about groups they belong to in their community and starting to learn about the religious groups of Christianity and Islam in R.E.

In Literacy : We will be reading and writing stories that have settings which are familiar to the children, for example, the park and home life.  They will learnt about the structure of stories (beginning/build-up/problem/solution/ending) and use this to write one of their own, describing the setting in more detail to make their writing more entertaining.

In Numeracy :  Children will learn what each digit means in a 2-digit number and try to split the numbers up into tens and ones. They will learn to add and subtract using mental methods, and that addition and subtraction are the opposite operations of each other.

In SEAL: The theme for this half term is 'New Beginnings.' Please check the weekly newsletter to see what our ethos statement is and make your child aware of it.

PE:  Monday AM – JADE CLASS.       

       Wednesday AM – VIOLET CLASS

       Friday AM – BLUE CLASS

Please ensure that your child brings a suitable PE kit and pumps. We will be doing    gymnastics this term, so children need to wear fitted clothing. Please can you make sure long hair is tied back on these days.

Reading: In Year 2 we have a guided reading session everyday and each group will read twice a week.  Children are then listened to individually at least once a week by the class teacher, teaching assistant or one of our helpers.  Reading books need to come to school everyday and will be changed when necessary and sent home every afternoon.  Please try and read with your child every day.

Homework: Will be sent home on a Friday, and should be completed and returned on a Monday.
